Between mid-December and the end of January the mornings drop below ten degrees and the afternoons climb back to twenty. A coat here has to come off easily and look right carried over an arm.
That rules out heavy wool and anything floor-length. What works is a mid-weight A-line coat that ends at the knee, a collarless tailored jacket you can wear indoors, and one longline knit with pockets for the auto ride.
Colour does more work in a short season. A mustard or rust coat over an otherwise dark outfit is the whole look; you will wear it forty times and it will be in every photograph from those six weeks, which is the point.
Buy the coat you will carry, not the coat you will wear.

Sizing note: our outerwear is cut to go over a shirt or a fine knit, not over another jacket. If you are between sizes, take the smaller one.
